“Book Buddies” will give second-graders extra opportunities to practice their reading skills. The program will consist of second-grade students reading to kindergartners.
“Book Buddies” will meet for 15 minutes, once a week and will be supervised by Miss Mathesius. It is our goal to see significant improvement in each student’s ability to read.
Reading buddy programs provide children with stimulating opportunities for learning and skill development, as well as promote a favorable school atmosphere. The "Book Buddies" program can accomodate six students at a time; therefore only a select number of students will be able to participate in this program at any given time.
"Book Buddies" students are discontinued when the school counselor, and the classroom teacher have determined that the areas that needed work have improved to such a point that regular classroom attention will continue to improve these skills. Typically, students may remain in the program 8 weeks, depending on their skills upon entering.
